Media for Youth

Objective:

Promoting coverage of the youth issues in media, facilitate empowerment of youths through capacity building and leadership development and ensuring participation of youth in the national-level policy making.

Context:

The youths, despite being the key force in bringing about positive changes in many countries, are now misguided, particularly in the third world countries. They are now involved in crime, violence and all the hated things. Vested quarters in the power structures of the third world nations are using them to carry out these activities to serve their petty interest. All these are happenning at a time when the popular expectation is that they remain in the forefront of all the positive things, be it development of the nation, peace-making or democratisation.

Need:

The need of the time is that the youths have active participation in the national-level policy making. Because the problems in the poor countries are mostly the problems of youths. Unemployment, violence, political confrontations, crimes are the major problems in these countries and the youths are the victims of these problems. So, they must have a say in national policy-making to resolve their own problems.

Strategy:

The TWMN under its "Media for Youth" project plans to develop a group of motivated media people who will carry out a media campaign for the empowerment of youths. The TWMN country committees will hold separate meetings with reporters, feature writers, editorial staff and gatekeepers to ensure that the media give maximum space for covering the youth issues and be a part of the campaign and advocacy activities initiated by the TWMN.
