FES, WTO hold study programme for TWMN members

The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), Geneva organised an information and study programme for the members of the Third World Media Network (TWMN) in Geneva from March 29 to April 2, 2004 in cooperation with the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) were also associated with the programme.

A total of 16 journalists from different least developed countries (LDCs) in Asia and Africa participated in the programme. The programme was aimed at improving their understanding of the trade and WTO issues.

The participants were first given a three-day programme with the WTO. During the remaining two days, there were meetings with the officials of the ILO, UNCTAD and the OHCHR.

Besides, there was informal meetings of the participants with their respective home missions, where they got the opportunity to discuss issues of interest with their country representatives.

Apart from general briefings in the above international organizations, participants were given general and special information on policies and activities on trade and development-related issues.

The course language was basically English. However, there was arrangement for interpretation for the French-speaking journalists.
